SAN FRANCISCO, May 08, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dr. Eric Culbertson joined Dr. Stanley Jacobs at The Jacobs Center for Cosmetic Surgery in July of 2017, expanding the surgical services available at the practice and quickly building a reputation as a plastic surgeon focused on body procedures, including breast augmentation, in the San Francisco Bay Area. Now, he is proud to announce that he recently earned certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery, a professional body devoted to ensuring member surgeons uphold the highest standards in safety, ethics, and efficacy.
Since it began awarding certifications to plastic surgeons in 1937, the American Board of Plastic Surgery has issued fewer than 10,000 certificates in the United States. Dr. Culbertson is one of just 209 plastic surgeons who received certification from the nonprofit at the end of 2018 after successfully passing oral exams in November.
No doctors are required to seek board certification. The process is entirely voluntary, so those who undertake the process are particularly committed to pursuing excellence in their field. It also means that they are willing to subject themselves to particular scrutiny and being held accountable by a group of industry professionals who adhere to rigorously strict standards. Note that this is distinct from licensure.
The American Board of Plastic Surgery is part of the American Board of Medical Specialties, along with 23 other medical specialty boards. The overarching goal of each board is to protect public health.
Certification is typically good for 10 years.
In addition to breast augmentation, Dr. Culbertson focuses on such body contouring procedures as drainless abdominoplasty (tummy tuck surgery) and surgical fat reduction (liposuction), and fat grafting, as well as BOTOX® Cosmetic, dermal fillers, and other nonsurgical treatments.
Dr. Culbertson’s work complements that of Dr. Stanley Jacobs, founder of The Jacobs Center and a triple board-certified facial cosmetic surgeon. Together, the two see more 1,000 patients each year, welcoming both women and men from all around the Bay Area, California, United States, and world.
The practice’s Healdsburg facility, where Dr. Culbertson performs his procedures, is itself accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. Similar to board certification, this designation is entirely voluntary and indicative of the surgeons’ commitment to offering a high level of care.
